Zombie treats #5

October 19, 2010

Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare

Great news for people looking for a zombie western, as it was announced that the zombie content for Red Dead Redemption will be released as a standalone disc, with no purchase of the original game required.

From Rockstar Games’ site:

Also coming soon, Undead Nightmare, a single, stand-alone disc that bundles together for the first time ever, the Undead Nightmare Pack, the Outlaws to the End Co-Op Mission Pack, the Legends and Killers Pack, the Liars and Cheats Pack and all the Multiplayer Free Roam modes released to date.  Undead Nightmare will be available at retail stores everywhere for $29.99/£24.99/€29.99 and does not require a copy of Red Dead Redemption to play.

And here’s a new trailer. I think it’s going to be a must to purchase.

From the painting desk #7

October 15, 2010

Bit slow with the updates lately, finally got something painted to show. My Predator project is well under way, my latest painted stuff includes three INAPs from Ainsty and a Copplestone Hunter Alien. The INAPs were basically basing jobs, except for the one where I tried to create a decloaking effect. Let me know what you think!

Still struggling with photo lighting. I only recently noticed, that the two bulbs I have – which should be the same – are different. One has a much more yellow tone, which definitely sucks. Will have to get a replacement for that, and work with one for now. This shows especially in the INAP picture, where the single bulb doesn’t provide enough lighting. On a single model it’s no problem, as the Copplestone one shows.

Zombie treats #4

October 6, 2010

Or rather, a singular zombie treat. The Left 4 Dead comic The Sacrifice concludes, and it’s as awesome as the first three parts. There’s a PDF download available too, so be sure to pick it up for reading again later.

And here’s an interview with the comic’s creators, in case you’re interested.

From the painting desk #6

October 5, 2010

Despite my veering towards Predators lately, I’m still adding to my Aliens Space Hulk project, which also naturally serves a more generic scifi-trooper project as well. The latest additions are two sentry guns by em4 (to be used as psychic barriers) and Kendra from Hasslefree. Kendra was originally purchased to be a werewolf, but her general appearance – pistol, fatigues, combat boots – made her suitably Colonial Marine-ish, while not rendering her unusable in her original role either. The model evokes a feeling of someone carefully moving to investigate a weird noise. In an Alien setting, this will no doubt lead to sudden death in the near future.

Zombie treats #3

October 1, 2010

Interesting zombie stuff just keeps rolling in. Here are the latest things that caught my attention:

Left 4 Dead – Sacrifice #3

The excellent webcomic continues. This really is the best zombie comic I’ve read since The Walking Dead.

Left 4 Dead – Sacrifice trailer

Speaking of Sacrifice, a lovely cinematic trailer for the new DLC has just been released. Looks mighty tasty, and has got me thinking that it might be time to fire up L4D again.

Red Dead Redemption – Undead Nightmare trailer

Red Dead Redemption, the excellent (or so I’ve been told) spaghetti western game is getting the zombie treatment. The idea of combining zombies and westerns has been around for quite a while, but apart from some comics and low budget flicks, there hasn’t really been much to speak of. The trailer below shows that this combination is potentially a really, really good idea.

Jungle fever #2

September 30, 2010

I’ve been busy with my new jungle terrain, and just wanted to show you some photos. If you missed the first part, you can find it here. The jungle pieces are made from old CDs, aquarium plants and model railroad palm trees, with flock and pizza spice mix to cover the discs up. I dropped in a few em4 and Copplestone Colonial Marines and some Ainsty INAPs to make for more interesting photos. Enjoy!

I have six pieces of jungle completed as I write. When I get more CDs, many many more will follow.

I just realised that the above picture is a great example of the INAPs clear resin effect. That actually looks very much like a cloaked Predator. Which is nice.

Another fine example of a cloaked Predator stalking her prey.

A close-up of the statue. It’s a Star Wars toy from a cereal packet or a Happy Meal or something like that, and was originally brass coloured plastic. Some chopping, weathering and hefty drybrushing later I really like the way it turned out.

Regular readers may have noticed, that there’s a new “Hot Right Now” header in the sidebar. It shows what posts have been read the most on DotL in the last 24-48 hours. Check it out, there just might be something you’ve missed!

And as a status update on the Alien miniatures review, it’s going to be massive. I think I’m 3/4 done, and it’s already a whopping 2500+ words. For comparison, this post is a bit under 250.

Zombie treats #2

September 22, 2010

It’s a quiet day, so a few zombie things for you loyal readers. As usual, this stuff lifted from the Inevitable Zombie Apocalypse site.

Dead Genesis

This indie flick looks a lot like George Romero’s frankly piss-poor Diary of the Dead, except a lot better. It chronicles the journey of a journalist who sets out to make a propaganda movie on the war versus the walking dead. Looks surprisingly good, I’m actually looking forward to seeing this!

Go to www.deadgenesisthemovie.com for more information.

Left 4 Dead – Sacrifice #2

The second part of the Left 4 Dead online comic is now online. Great stuff, go read it. If you missed the first part, start here.

Jungle fever

September 20, 2010

My Aliens project all but finished (and providing me with loads of faith in the idea, that it’s actually possible to complete a project), it’s time for a new one. It will come as no surprise that it will revolve around another favourite scifi-baddie, the Predator. Or rather, Predators as per the new movie. While I will make a longer, detailed post in the future – once I get the Aliens review done – I thought I’d show you a piece of the terrain that I’m making. With the default setting for Predator action being the jungle, I’ve gone to work. My work was greatly inspired by Matakishi, so mad props to him, as we cool kidz say. I went for a more exotic, alien variety of jungle though.

The jungle pieces will be based on old CD’s, a feature a lot of aquarium plants. The one shown here doesn’t have any palm trees yet, as they’re still in transit. They will be much taller than anything and give some more sense of scale to the terrain. The column is from the Horrorclix Aliens set, with flock (as moss) used to cover the holes left by removing the figures. The leaf scatter is pizza seasoning, making this piece of jungle smell pretty tasty.

I could whip up a quick tutorial, if there’s interest.

Here’s a picture of the finished piece:

And the same piece with some em4 Colonial Marines:

Only twenty or so more (at least) to do, let me know what you think!

Zombie treats

September 15, 2010

No, not candy. Just lovely stuff from the world of zombie pop culture:

Code Z

If a new webseries with amazingly hot triplets beating up zombies sounds like your cup of tea (and let’s face it – if it doesn’t, take a long look in the mirror), definitely check out Code Z. Probably worth it for the babe factor alone.

Click for official site with trailer

Eaters

The Italian zombie movie Eaters, that I first mentioned way back now has a full trailer online. Don’t let the mention of Uwe Boll (whose movie Rampage is actually pretty good) put you off, this looks like a nice enough film.

Left 4 Dead – Sacrifice

For L4D fans and zombie enthusiasts alike, there’s a free, quality online comic based on the game available. Can hardly wait for the next instalment!

Night of the Living Trekkies

This is a video trailer for a book. Which is a shame, since I’d love to see a whole movie of this! It really tickles my geek organ.

In space no one can hear you laugh

September 7, 2010

While waiting for all the stuff needed for my Aliens review, I figured I’d offer a bit of fun for a change. Yes, this is another Youtube post (which are my filler of choice) but this stuff is in theme and well worth sharing. Here we go!

[comic by Mike Jacobsen]

A Collegehumor original:

Collection of clips from the AVP2 videogame ads:

A true classic:

And if you’re in for more laughs, I suggest Alien vs. Winnie the Pooh (which might either be suitable or traumatic for the kids) as well as Alien loves Predator.

And speaking of children, if you let yours on the internet, be sure to remind them that there’s all kinds of dubious people out there.
