The science of a zombie outbreak

August 18, 2009

If zombies actually existed, an attack by them would lead to the collapse of civilisation unless dealt with quickly and aggressively.

BBC news has an interesting article on a paper created by researchers in Canada speculating on and mathematically modelling a zombie catastrophe.

Read the news item here, and see the paper (in PDF form) itself here.

  1. I saw that article as well. Zombies pop up in the most unexpected places, don’t they? I have a PDF someplace of a mind-blowingly dull book by some psychology wonk whose thesis is so abstract that I can’t even understand the outline of what the hell he’s trying to say. That’s the job I want. I want to get paid to pick fights with other eggheads over indecipherable points of philosophical gibberish. Nice work if you can get it, I suppose. đŸ™‚

I also thought of you, Mikko, when I read this on the BBC website as well:

I admire a country that embraces that much pure whimsy. I truly do. If the boot-throwing championships ever come to America I am so there! Let alone mobile phone hurling…

    • I can relate to the abstract thesis stuff, as I’m starting to work on my Master’s thesis in behavioural science. Maybe I could just psychobabble my way through it đŸ˜€

We Finns are indeed famous/notorious for our..eccentric sports. With Finland’s atrocious performance in the current track and field World Championship Games, maybe we should really concentrate on boot-throwing and wife-carrying. Might simply be the vodka factor at work here.
